Francisco Newton - Cartas da Nova Atlantida A fascinating website about the Portuguese explorer and naturalist Francisco Newton who spent ten years in the islands of the Gulf of Guinea from 1885-1895 and discovered many of the islands' endemic species. Contains many of his letters to Bocage, a chronology of his travels, and an extensive bibliography.

A new goby-shrimp association from Príncipe Peter Wirtz describes the first east Atlantic goby-shrimp association. Both the goby and shrimp species concerned are probably new to science and the shrimp belongs to a genus never before recorded to exist in such a symbiotic relationship.
